Reading Literature Out Loud Podcast Individual Learning Project
I propose to learn the software Garageband for digital audio recording and editing, as well as free podcast hosting through Soundcloud. The purpose of this would be to engage 8th grade ELA students in the creation of a reading aloud podcast. Students in my classes are often asked to read short passages out loud. I’ve noticed a strong aversion to this activity, and students have expressed that they do not like to read out loud because they do not feel like they are skilled at it. This lesson would give students the opportunity to practice reading a short selection until they are comfortable enough to record and broadcast. This would give students a tangible record of their reading improvement as well as teaching them rudimentary audio recording and editing.
